Garmspot releases official Felabration 2018 Merchandise

Garmspot has teamed up with Felabration to release a Garmspot x Felabration Capsule collection. Items go on sale today and are available exclusively at the Shrine from the 15th of October – 21st October 2018. Items shall also be available on our site and at the Urban Nest, Ikoyi. The collection drops on what would have been the 80th birthday of the late afrobeats icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The release is completed by four t-shirt designs across four colour-ways: brown, yellow, black and white. The collection will  go online on the 16th of October and would be available [here].

Felabration was initiated a year after the death of the King of Afrobeats in 1998 by his daughter, Yeni Kuti. The festival holding from the 15th to the 21st of October would see fans from around the world gather at the New Afrika Shrine, Alausa, Lagos in honour of Fela. The legend has made intense contributions to Nigerian society, grassroots politics, the afrobeats genre and world music. This year’s festival, themed ‘Overtaking Overtake’ is based on his 1990 hit, ‘ODOO’ (Overtake Don Overtake Overtake).

Buzz towards Fela and the kalakuta shrine were rejuvenated earlier on in the year when French President, Emmanuel Macron visited the venue in July. The legend’s influence on music is globally renowned and continues to inspire young talent the world over. Just two days ago, Kanye west was quoted by the media as claiming Fela Kuti as one of the spirits currently living within him. However true this may be, pop culture is rife with references to his greatness.

Felabration 2018 will showcase musical performances, free medical services, public lectures and concerts amongst other fixtures. The festival shall encourage political discourse through a symposium titled ‘African Leadership in the Millennium’ and The Secondary Schools’ debate for Lagos State. The schools’ debate prize titled  was won by Rainbow College this year and titled ‘State Police Should be Introduced in Nigeria’. The festival also features a photo exhibition, the ‘Fela Street Carnival Parade’ with musical floats and costumed dancers, and of course…Concerts!

Partners for Felabration 2018 include Nigerian Breweries, 7up Bottling Company, MerryBet, The Lagos State Government and music platform, boom play.

The entire festival shall air online via 9 Stream via this link for a fee of ₦200 daily. You can also find out more about felabration here.
