The Cannes film festival’s impact on pop culture

Many filmmakers set out to make a film that changes people’s perspectives, addresses certain cultural issues, and bring them to the forefront. They guide thought processes in the right direction by making films that change the world.

The Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or raises the stakes even higher for filmmakers.

Although there are no set criteria for a Cannes winner, previous winners’ films have featured equity, human rights, and altruism.

The jury members may have significant influence over the winning film, not because the film is most deserving of the award, but because of their values.

A jury made up mostly of women may be biased in favoring a female director, given that only one female director has won the Palme d’Or since the festival’s inception. Younger jurors have also been invited to take part in an effort to eliminate archaic standards as much as possible.

The Cannes Film Festival appears to be evolving and attempting to stay current on a daily basis. In order to maintain the “quality of the red carpet,” selfies were banned on the Cannes red carpet in 2018. This year, however, many Tiktok celebrities attended, with some live-streaming their experience on the prestigious red carpet.

While a great film strives to change the world, it does not overlook the insignificant. Things that bring people together and elevate “fun” to a higher level of importance.

These inconsequential things are finishing touches that we dismiss as unimportant but turn out to be pop culture. This is the purpose of the Cannes Film Festival.
